INDIVIDUAL AND FAMILY THERAPY

Therapy, also known as psychotherapy and counseling, is a treatment modality that can play a significant role in decreasing suffering due to mental health issues.  There are many different types of therapies available, with a multitude of differing therapists.  Finding the "right match" in both the type of therapy and the provider is an important step towards improving outcomes.  Additionally, once in therapy, it is important to be engaged in the treatment process.

At CAPS of Maine, we understand how overwhelming and daunting it can be to find the "right match."  That is why if therapy is indicated, we can provide guidance to help steer you towards  a provider who would be a good match for individual and/or family therapies, either at CAPS of Maine or other office.  Additionally, we can provide short term psychotherapy for those on an extended waiting list with another therapist, to help "bridge" treatment until an opening is ready.

The types of psychotherapy offered include:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for Anxiety, Depression, Insomnia

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

  • Motivational Interviewing (MI)

  • Mindfulness Training

  • Attachment Informed Psychotherapy

  • Bereavement/Grief Counseling

  • Problem Solving/Solution Focused Brief Therapy

  • Structural Family Therapy

“Each patient carries his own doctor inside him. They come to us now knowing this truth. We are at our best when they give the doctor who resides within each patient a chance to go to work.”
